Sven Hagströmer – New Chair of the Jury for the Raoul Wallenberg Award

The jury for the Raoul Wallenberg Award will now be led by a new chair, Sven Hagströmer. The jury’s task is to select the 2023 recipient of the Raoul Wallenberg Award, which is presented to an individual in Sweden who works for equal human value and is awarded by the Raoul Wallenberg Academy.

Sven Hagströmer has a background in finance as the founder and chairman of Avanza and Creades, while also maintaining a strong commitment to social causes. He is a relative of Raoul Wallenberg and was one of the co-founders of the Raoul Wallenberg Academy in 2001. He now steps into the role as the new chair of the award jury.

“I am very proud of this new role. At the same time, it is a responsibility to, together with a highly competent jury, identify and honor role models who act in Raoul’s spirit,” says Sven Hagströmer about what the assignment means to him.

The nomination period for submitting candidates for the Raoul Wallenberg Award is open to the public until the end of February. After that, the jury process begins, led by Sven Hagströmer, who together with the other jury members will select the 2023 award recipient.

“Raoul was our hero. The award was established to recognize individual efforts made in Raoul’s spirit. Not everyone can do what Raoul did, but everyone can do something—and through the collective efforts of many acting in his spirit, we can create a better society together,” says Sven Hagströmer about the significance of the award.
